How do I make a styrofoam glitter Christmas decorations?

I remember making decorations as a kid that we would take paper Christmas napkins and glue them to styrofoam balls, then decorate with glitter.
I am not sure if I am missing any steps and I am not have any success with searching for this craft.
Anybody made these before / have full directions?
Thank you!

Were you using translucent glitter (holographic, or pearl, or something), or were you using an opaque glitter like red or gold, etc.?
Were you using the larger-flake-size "craft" glitter?… or were you using the ultra-fine polyester glitters often used for decorating t-shirts and many other things, etc?
Were you covering the entire ball with glitter, or just certain parts or shapes?

The napkin part sounds like it was just "decoupage," using a purchased decoupage medium like ModPodge or Royal Coat, or the homemade version of a permanent white glue like Elmers GlueAll thinned 3 or 4 to 1 with water (these would be used both under and over the napkin parts). You could decoupage pieces of napkin/etc on any surface btw, even on metallic "glass" xmas ball ornaments (though the color of the ball ornaments could show through any light-colored napkins).

Sometimes those fine-grain polyester glitters in translucent versions (no "color) or holographic ones are used over entire colored images or objects so that the images show through and are sparkly but less distinct (the glitters are sprinkled onto a wet layer of the decoupage medium or thinned glue, or perhaps mixed into the medium then brushed onto the surface).

How can I hang Christmas lights on a carport?

I have a metal carport and want to hang Christmas Lights on it but the the clips you buy to hang lights on the house won’t fit the carport. Any suggestions?….Oh, and duct tape doesn’t work either!

several ways..most home depots, lowes, etc have hanging clips that can be screwed into your metal supports with self tapping screws making them available every year. if your carport has smaller poles supporting your roof, i have used larger plastic tie wraps to hang lights..you may want to wrap the poles with the lights..many others..merry christmas,,,fred

Why would the Houston Astros sign Mike Hampton like they did today, 1 year – 2 million. They should just?

flush that 2 million down the drain right now. You know this guy will get injured from now until opening day 2009. He will fall off his roof putting Christmas Lights on, he will slip in the shower, he will tweak his back shoveling snow. This guy is such a joke and the biggest bust ever with that 130 million dollar contract he just got and was injured 3/4 of the time. Who agrees this was a bad move for the Astros?

This guy should play for free or the MLB minimum, after the rape he just did the past 8 years.

Mike Hampton is money waiting to be wasted. I wouldn’t offer this guy a contract unless it was for the league minimum. he’s way too injury prone and old.

What are the Christmas Decorations in France?

I am doing a project and need help with a part I need to find out what Christmas Decorations people in France use.

Most of what we do in the US has some kind of parallel in France as far as Christmas goes, but there are some things that are more particular or more important there. Some big French Christmas decorations/traditions:

1. Mistletoe (hung over the doors at Christmas to give people who pass under good luck for the coming year)
2. Candles, especially around nativities, in windows, and around pictures of Mary
3. Sapin de Noël – Christmas trees (decorated with apples, candles, paper flowers, and ribbons)
4. Créche – or Christmas crib (nativity scene) filled with santons, very particular little traditional figures aside from the ones in the US – for example, not just the Wise Men and shepherds, but a homeless man, a pig man, a baker, etc.

What’s an easy way to install C7 Christmas Lights (Large Bulbs) on the ridge liness of a roof?

I am just getting a head start on installing (not turning on) my Christmas Lights on the house for the holiday season. And I am running into some difficulty. I normally use the small lights and this year I opted to use C7′s for that crisper straight line look.

However, I am having problems getting them mounted to my shingles on the ridgelines of the roof.
Does anyone have any ideas (besides stapling, it will ruin my shingles) to mount these suckers so they will stand straight up down the ridge ? I have tried the standard C7 clips and these do not do the trick….

First great answer gets the gold! lol

Thanks everyone!

Lowes and Homedepot will sell special hooks for your shingles to mount lights. You could even use heavy wire like coat hangers to hold the lights there in place.

How to hang indoor Christmas lights around a window?

I would like to hang indoor Christmas Lights around a window from the inside. I did this last year, but used tape to hang them and the cold made the tape come off. I do not want to use nails as the window frames are very hard (like concrete) and nails would ruin the window trim/finish. I’d hang lights outside, but that would require opening a basement window and leaving it part way open in order to run the cord to an outlet (no exterior outlets at my house) Any suggestions?

3M has developed removable, non-marking clips specifically for this purpose. In their Command Strip line of products they have decorating clips ideal for hanging a string of lights indoors.

You can find these at Home Depot, KMart, Lowes, Staples, Target, Walgreens, Walmart and more. See the ‘Where to Buy’ link in the menu on the left side of the page
