The Christmas Wedding
To be merry at Christmas is one thing, but to be married at Christmas is truly romantic and magical. What could be a better time to get married and start a new life than when families come together to celebrate the festive season?
I’m sure there are many ideas that you and your partner can come up with on your own, however, here is a brief outline of some of them that may help you on your way.
VOWS:
• Your vows should come directly from the heart; however, the wording could be played with in order to create a magical feeling for you both.
• As Christmas is a religious time you could always stick with the traditional vows, maybe embellishing upon this for the sake of the Christmas season.
INVITATIONS:
• Leave a little more time before sending your invitations as people’s diaries will be very busy this time of year.
• You can highlight the Christmas theme on your invitations without making it look too much like a Christmas card, for example, simply introducing a border made of white snowflakes around your text.
WEDDING FAVOURS:
• Ice cube place card holders
• Treasure ball – filled with Christmas candy
• Holiday ornament candles
• Miniature wedding snow globes
• Personalised Christmas crackers
• Mini Christmas trees
ENTERTAINMENT:
• Ask a children’s choir to sing at the ceremony.
• Hire a wedding magician to give your wedding breakfast a little more….well you know – magical!
• Any singer or band that is willing to either provide part or a whole Christmas show.
DECORATIONS:
• This one is simple – except this time you might not want to let the kids have a go.
• Miniature Christmas trees with lots of presents underneath
• Lots of candle light
• Glitter!
THE CAKE:
• You could have a cake that looks like a stack of Christmas gifts
• Decorate with Iced holly and berries
• Incorporate the traditional colours and symbols
THE ARRIVAL:
• For a true Christmas look you could arrive on a Christmas sleigh with Santa at the reins.
• If you’d prefer to arrive by the normal means you could work a little magic with the decorations.
FLOWERS:
• Check with your florist which flowers are in season over Christmas.
• Bear in mind that flowers can be more expensive this time of year.
• Use holly, pine and sprigs of Ivy.
• Add mistletoe to accent corsages and boutonnieres.
• Place pots of poinsettia in the centre of each table, tied with a ribbon trim.
Well that’s a start anyway! Between the two of you, I’m sure you’ll find many more ways in which to make the perfect Christmas wedding.

Christmas Wedding?
Hello everyone. Please share your kind thoughts. I have a Wedding in December 4 days before Christmas and my Wedding theme represent Christmas however, I would like just a few items to decorate my wedding for Christmas and not to have my Wedding day an over killed so that my quests doesn’t think they are at a Christmas Party not my Wedding.
Should I be light on Christmas items for my wedding and not overkill the theme?

You could use red/green Christmas colors for decorations and have poinsettas and mistletoe!

Keep everything as a wedding theme but give ornaments as gifts.

Maybe use holly and pine boughs for decoration. Natural and seasonal, but not christmas overkill.

It’s your wedding. You and your future-husband should decide on whatever theme, and how far to go with it, that suits your preferences.
God bless!

I think that you should use some Christmas colors but not use Christmas ornaments or anything.

Definately keep the christmas decoration at a minimum and use neutral stuff like white lights and gold bows instead of colorful nutcrackers and santas and elves. That would be a bit much and distract from it being a wedding. I love Christmas weddings when they are tactful and classy.

What a beautiful time of year to get married. Why not have some elements of Christmas like a small decorated tree and some decorations, but keep the theme more of a "Winter Wonderland" with different shades of white, silver, red, etc. Have icecycles, twinkle lights, etc. to avoid xmas overload. Best wishes on a wonderful wedding and a happy marriage!

I would keep the Christmas items out of it altogether.

It is a Wedding NOT Christmas
NOT much should reflect Christmas….NO tree or anything like that.
Might want to do a reef for the back of the car looking like Christmas. or give away something like Crystal bells as the keep sakes.
Do wedding flowers on the dinner table to keep it your day.
When you go to change your clothes change into something red and green to show the season.
Remember it is your day….. make it what you want.
Best Wishes

I would advise keeping the Christmas celebration and your wedding two separate events !
Perhaps some Wintry type decorations like evergreen with white bows (with some sparkle) and two gold rings !

As it is a Christmas wedding, I would go with light Christmas colors but have wedding type decorations. Someone mentioned to giving Bulbs as gifts, I agree.
Best wishes

My brother and sis in law had a christmas wedding. They used poinsettas for the flowers and the decorations in general. It was absolutely beautiful! The flowers were beautiful but not overkill or super christmas partyish, ya know. Plus everyone in the wedding party got to take home a flower, a lovely gift for the holiday season and a sweet reminder of the wedding.

Using Christmas colors but not any typical Christmas items. One wedding that was memorable (on t.v. that is) was Christina Aguilera’s wedding. Her theme was fire (reds, yellows for ceremony) and ice (white silver for reception).

Perhaps you could do something similar in having a ceremony with the reds / greens / golds and a reception with white / silver. Use the holiday colors as a guide!

my brother and his fiance are also getting married right before christmas! she thought that there would be too much red and green with the decorations so she decided for the bridesmaid dresses to be ice blue and to have a snowflake theme.

Go with the colors of Christmas, but maybe not so much with the imagery of Christmas. I wouldn’t do too many big Christmas trees/decorations, even though it would be cute to have guest leave wedding gifts under the tree.
Maybe go with simple white and gold with accents of red and green. It looks clean and elegant with just a hint of festive color that will be easy to find that time of year.

Hi. I agree with the other posters to keep the Christmas theme to a minimum. I would NOT do "red and green" together, although I like the red separately.
You could do so many things and it still would not be Christmas "overload."
~ I love the silver and blues at that time. Candles on a mirror are pretty anytime of the year.
~ Another color combination is the silver and golds.
~ White and red roses would look beautiful!
~ Or, go with small poinsettias as centerpieces. They come in a variety of colors – white, pink and red. You could "wrap" the bottom in a beautiful silver paper. Place it on a mirror and put a few votives next to it ~ pretty!
~ If you want a cheap and still elegant centerpiece — you can get Christmas ornament "balls" in reds, golds, silvers, blues, (whatever 2 colors you like) and place them in a glass dish. Very pretty.
~ If you want to decorate with lighted iced branches, here is the link – so pretty!

There are many ways to decorate and not go Christmas theme overkill. Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful Christmas wedding!

Since your wedding is so close to Christmas, why not take advantage of the season and do something differrent, instead of a gift TABLE, a Christmas Tree, you could also ask people to bring an ornament to put on the tree so you will have it for all your future Christmases together, or give ornaments with your names and date as gifts to your guests. Instead of a box for gift cards, a large stocking? There is nothing to say you can’t use the colors you want. If you are however having your reception in a Catering hall, take advantage of all the decorating they will do. you can always get nice hurricane candle holders and put a lovely candle in it. Nothing says you need to go red and green, how about burgundy and cream, pink and white with gold, anything you want! You could also go with the Snowflake theme, lots of white, blues, silvers and snowflake ornaments as gifts to your guests with your new names, date of marriage and your new home address on it. I would use lots of sparkling WHITE lights to decorate your head table. After all, this is YOUR WEDDING!
Good luck with thatever you decide, it will be perfect because you planned it the way you always dreamed it could be. Should you need any further ideas, feel free to e-mail me.

DON’T feel obligated to go with normal Christmas colors like red/ green; I recommend:
Colors: Silver, Blue, White
You can still celebrate Christmas, or any winter holiday with colors like these. For example, you can make invitations with silver/ blue / and white.. they will be tasteful/ elegant, but will not look like a holiday card.
Flowers are extremely expensive around Christmas time… if you are on a tight budget you might consider using candles/ or other types of settings to get by with less flowers.
Often people make cakes that look like a giant present; a tiered cake that looks like a wrapped gift.
You might consider hiring a professional planner as well–they can give you some great advice on making your special day one of pure wedding bliss, to be remembered fondly long into your marriage. The average cost of a wedding in 2007 was about 28,000–and to me it seems ludicrous for someone to try & coordinate so much on their own without the help of a professional.
