LED DISPLAYS CHRISTMAS LIGHTS Light Emitting Diode Holiday Green Idea
These Led DISPLAY Lights are awesome. They give off the same light for 2 watts a stringer. For those of you not versed in the watt conversion, that is 50 stringers, (2500 bulbs) = 1 standard light bulb.

I agree. The compact fluorescent bulbs are a good stop gap measure to energy consumption, but the LED’s are even more efficient and, like you said, don’t have the mercury that fluorescent bulbs have. As the prices of LED’s drop, we’ll see more and more use of those and less use of other types of bulbs. It is an enigma to me to ponder why the incandescent bulbs remained the mainstay for so long? I can see where HID lighting comes in handy, but LED’s for general use is coming.

Wow, too bad I just saw this posting on Dec. 23! We have sold LEDs on white wire for at least three years! I don’t think you’ll find much white corded LEDs at the big retail stores. If you want, click my user name to find our web address or search Google for “White cord LED light strings.”

This Christmas I am …
This Christmas I am thinking of changing to LED lights for our Christmas tree. I only have one question. Do LED lights come on white wires with single color bulbs? Our tree is white and I think that green wire on a white tree would look horendous.

You need to look at …
You need to look at FullWaveLeds. There are a few companies selling them. You generally can’t find them at big stores because they are higher quality and more expensive to produce.
Full wave leds have been around for at least three years.
Good point about the store displays–they are run on batteries, so there is no oscillation–no half wave (flickering) lights when run on DC power.

Good quality LED …
Good quality LED lights are actually LESS expensive when you look beyond shelf price.
For instance, 100 incandescent mini lites use 38 watts of power. At ten cents per kilowatt-hour you’d pay $1.37 for 30 days’ use. If your LEDs used 4 watts, your cost would be $0.07 (seven cents)!
Multiply those times 20 strings (if you use that few) and the numbers are $27.40 and $1.40 respectively. This is a 95% savings!
And we’re not even counting the fact that your incand. lights won’t work next year.

Nice video, nicely done! Wondering why the meter at 1:12 reads 0.04 though your voiceover says “Four watts.” Your Kill-A-Watt meter is set to something other than Watts, because four watts would be about right for two LED light strings.

This technology is …
This technology is available and has been for a few years already. However, the big box stores won’t carry them because they are volume dealers. Just like LED Christmas lights–we sold them for five years before the big stores would even touch them. Now, they are making them cheap–as in cheap quality. Yes, there are vast quality differences. Talk to a dealer who knows their product. Ask about Full- vs Half-wave, for example. If they don’t know what it is, go someplace else.

ptryba – Watts are …
ptryba – Watts are more like a measure of how powerful something is, the useful energy it supplies to its work. A device rated at 38 watts used over the period of one hour would be 38 watt hours (.038 kilowatt hours, the unit most if not all power suppliers use when charging you)
.038 * 24 = .91 kwh, nearly 1 kilowatt hour… See your power bill for the cost of 1 kilowatt, for me it is roughly 8 cents once I factor in taxes and other additional fees.
Hope that helps out a bit.

My neighbor down the road had 35,000 conventional old school lights strung across 4 acres. He had a 400 amp service on his house and an additional 200 amp service on the drive way. He has a 480v 3ph 600 amp service on his shop. I am afraid to ask what his power bill is, but you may be able to see the lights from the space station.
