I’m an Army Soldier deployed to Iraq that had a little extra time on my hands. I created this christmas video using glowsticks and flashlights. My camera was a Nikon D300 using a 30sec exposer @ ISO 200 & F11. It is hard to get Christmas Lights out here in the desert that work on 220volts so I made my own kind of holiday lighting outside of my CHU / housing unit. The rest of the pictures were pulled from DVIDS from last years Christmas in Iraq. I felt that America needed some Christmas cheer, and a brief reality check, that their are still troops overseas fighting for their freedom.

Here is a close up of the Carol of The Bells Light show. One of the most challenging things was the two story tall mega-light tree with 20,000 lights and getting the lights to change color sequentially while they rotated around the tree. Sequenced with the Light O Rama Controller System

Our LauderdaleChristmas.com 64,000 LED Christmas Lights display, shot with my Canon Vixia HF10 using my own custom settings. Our display is 100% LEDs, with 144 channels from 9 Light-O-Rama computerized lighting controllers. I act as orchestrater, tell the lights when to turn on or off, fade, twinkle, etc. An MP3 player inside the controller plays the music and controls the lights according to your programmed orchestration. We transmit it to people’s cars radio via low power transmitter on unused 100.9 FM

Around the room in 60 seconds:

1) front and center: scarf guy.
2) my dining room table (left), which has about 1 month’s worth of laundry i’ve finally washed and folded. the chair you see has about 7 shirts that need to be ironed. i hate ironing. dry cleaning gift cards warmly welcomed this season.
3) if you look closely through the sliding glass door (center), you’ll see the fake spider webs from a killer halloween party we threw 1.5 months ago. i feel they compliment my tree quite nicely. others feel they should be removed before our christmas bash saturday.
4) another close look in the reflection on the door and you’ll see my new lamp. recognize it? i love lamp.
5) i kinda “lampooned” my tree. it’s barely taller than me but has about 1200 lights. my middle brother is a fireman, i hope he doesn’t see this. he’ll drive three hours just to kick my….

thanks to josh grobin for the reminder that a pop/classical mix can still result in a nice rendition of a holiday song. hope everyone has a safe and warm holiday season!!!

New for this year are the Cosmic Color Ribbon arches, 3 Pole Trees (2x 8′ trees and 1x 16′ tree with topper), a 9′ scrolling LED sign (visible on the left but not activated for the purposes of this video), complete LED conversion including the addition of cool white perimeters on all roofs.

In order to properly display our upgrades for this year, we took one of last year’s sequences and added in the new features. We hope you enjoy the arches and trees as much as we do

Our Christmas light display in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. There are 42,000 lights on 320 Light-O-Rama light channels. This particular song is Carol of the Bells by Mannheim Steamroller. The two mega trees are 25′ tall with about 10,000 lights per tree. The keyboards on the each side of the house are colored Plexiglas with 40-watt bulbs behind them. The light triangles under the eves are 400 mini lights. We also programmed the popular Wizards In Winter this year (just because it was fun to do!) At full load, the lights pull 207 amps but are only at full load for 4 seconds. It costs 65 cents/hour to run our entire show and the music is broadcast over FM station 89.3. We did a canned food drive this Christmas and received nearly 1,300 pounds of food. And we have the best neighbors because they put up with the thousands of cars that came down our dead-end road for over 5 weeks!
